What’s wrong with Simona Halep?

I for one am a big fan of the cunning Romanian; she marks a style of play which is unique in today’s Women’s game which seems only to be heading further in the direction of heavy hitters. But Halep has had a torrid two months; so what’s gone wrong?
Halep vs. Kasatkina
The 26 year old has had a rough two months which is very unlike her normally consistent self. The latest set-back was a loss to 20 year old, Daria Kasatkina who sits at 31 in the world. What is more alarming than the loss is the 6-2 6-1 score line.
After losing to Muguruza in the finals at Cinncinati, Halep has failed to win a match on tour, losing to Sharapova in the first round of the US Open and now Kasatkina in the first round at Wuhan.
Halep looked to have lost all confidence in her serve and in the first set was unable to convert even one of her four service games. Whatever’s going on with Halep, she will have to overcome it quickly as a strong contingent of young players are coming through the ranks as shown by the all-American Keys v. Sloane final.
